The emotion of colour...

Lucy Merriman is an emerging British artist based in East London.  Her work is a response to the surrounding landscape through emotive colour and expressive brushstrokes, focusing on printmaking processes and painting.

Colour is one of the driving principles along with themes of movement and energy, changing perceptions and connections with our natural environment.  Lucy’s mixed media approach is developed through painted sketches, monoprints and photography. Using a blend of analogue & digital processes she plays with form and composition. Layers of acrylic paint are energetically applied to grounds, often hand screen printed images merge with sweeping gestural marks in vibrant hues.  Then a process of adding and deleting, reflecting and resolving until a sense of unity appears.

Lucy graduated from Nottingham Trent University with a BA in Textile Design, establishing her first print design studio in Shoreditch 1992.  In 2020, Lucy shifted focus from design to artistic practice.

Since 2021, Lucy has widely exhibited at group shows and art fairs including; The Affordable Art Fair Battersea and Hampstead, The Other Art Fair London and Woolwich Contemporary Print Fair with ELP.  She is a selected member of ArtCan and a keyholder at East London Printmakers.  Her work is held in private collections around the world.
